Waris Shah
Waris Shah hailed from a Syed family and was born in 1706 in Punjab. He was a famous Punjabi Sufi poet, well-known for his seminal work Heer Ranjha. He was a skilled artist and learned in domestic and Sufi wisdom. His verses are treasure of Punjabi idioms, phrases and sayings. Most of his verses are widely used in Punjab in moral context.
Waris was at his best when he described the details of beauty, scenes of separation, human feelings, graces of nature and sentiments. He died in or around 1798 at the age of about 92 years. Today, his burial place is a pilgrimage, especially for those in love.
