The Wankhede cricket stadium is one of the only two major cricket grounds located in the city of Mumbai. It resulted from the decision of the Bombay Cricket Association to construct their stadium. It invited some criticism, as well as dispute from the Brabourne owners. Wankhede cricket stadium staged its first Test in the 1974-75, while West Indies toured India. Now, it has become the main venue of cricket in the city. It had gone through an up gradation drive in 1995. Floodlights were also installed for hosting day and night matches. This stadium offers help to swing bowlers because of the proximity to the sea. |
