Vishwakarma Puja is one of the important hindu festival celebrated annually on September 17 in all over India. Vishwakrma is the divine architect of the universe according to Hindu mythology. He is also the divine carpenter who is mentioned in the Rig Veda and is credited with Sthapatya Veda, the science of mechanics and architecture. Vishwakarma created 5 Brahmas and each of them had these faces which are Sanaga Brahma Rishi, Sanaathana Brahma Rishi, Abhuvanasa Brahma Rishi, Prathnasa Brahma Rishi, Suparnasa Brahma Rishi as per Vasishtha Purana.
|According to Mahabharata, Vishwakarma the most eminent of Artisans, the Executor of a thousand Handicrafts, the Carpenter of the Gods, the Lord of the Arts, the Fashioner of all ornaments and an immortal God. He has four hands, a book, and craftsman's tools in his hands, and holds a water-pot, a noose, wears a crown and loads of gold jewellery.
Generally this festival is celebrated by Artisans, craftsmen, mechanics, smiths, welders, industrial workers, factory workers and all types of workers who worship Lord Vishwakarma on that day. They pray for a better future, working in safe conditions and above all, success in their respective fields.
Vishwakarma is projected as a mythical image with an elephant, which is his vehicle, and fresh fruits are offered to him. Most of the people celebrate it as a feast, arrange cultural programs and take part in various activities. Kite flying is also a major activity on the day. The idol of Vishwakarma is immersed in water at the end of the festival.
