| Udupi Rajagopalacharya Ananthamurthy was born on December 31 in the year 1931. He is a great writer and critic in Kannada language and known as one of the most important leader of the Navya movement. He started his career in 1970 as a professor and instructor in the Department of English of University of Mysore. He has performed many significant works for literacy which has been translated into several Indian and European languages. |

| Ananthamurthy is the sixth person, who was awarded the Jnanpith Award for Kannada language. He was also honoured by the Government of India with the Padma Bhusan. |
