Tyagaraja
Tyagaraja, saint composer of Carnatic music was born on May 4th 1767 in Thiravarur, Tamil Nadu. He was named Tyagaraja after the presiding deity of the Thiruvarur temple. At an early age, he began his training of music under the guidance of Sonti Venkataramanayya.
He wedded Parvatamma at a young age, and she passed away in short span. After the demise of his 1st wife, he wedded Kamalamba, and the couple had a daughter, Seethalakshmi.

He has written numerous devotional songs in praise of Lord Rama. Five compositions made by him known as the ‘Five Gems’ are usually sung in programmes in the honour of Tyagaraja.

He passed away on January 6th 1847.
