The Classical Era

The classical era in India commenced with the revival of the north during Harsha's conquests in the 7th century, and collapsed with the decline of the Vijayanagar Empire down south, owing to the force from the invaders to the north during the 13th century. This era produced some of the finest specimens of art in India, considered to be the epitome of classical development, as well as the growth of the expansion of the chief religious and philosophical practices that survive in Hinduism, Buddhism and Jainism till date.

Even in the south, literature in local the vernacular language as well as the stunning architecture reflected in the breath-taking temples prospered until about the start of the 14th century when southern missions of the Delhi sultan took their charge on these kingdoms.
