Sundarbans National Park

The Sundarbans National Park was declared as tiger reserve in 1973, a wildlife sanctuary in 1977, national park in 1984, World Heritage Site in 1987 and biosphere reserve in 1989. The park area is spread over 10,000 km of land and water in the Ganges delta, partly in India and Bangladesh. Several rare as well as endangered species such as tigers, birds, aquatic mammals and reptiles can be found here.
It is one of the largest reserves of the Bengal tiger. Most of the region is densely covered by mangrove forests. The Sajnekhali Bird Sanctuary is also a part of the Sundarbans Park.
