Sumitranandan Pant

Sumitranandan Pant was a famous modern Hindu poet and was considered as a major poet of Chhayavaadi School of Hindu Literature. He was born on May 20, 1900. He mostly wrote in Sanskrit and authored twenty-eight books including verse play, essays and poetry. Besides, he also wrote progressive, philosophical, socialist and humanist poems.
Pant was conferred with Jnanpith Award for his collection of the most famous poems, titled Chidambara and for Lokayatan, he received Nehru Peace Prize by Soviet Union. He died on December 28, 1977. The childhood house of Pant in Kausani has been converted into a museum that displays his daily use articles, drafts of his poems, letters and his awards.
