Sucheta Kriplani

Sucheta Kriplani, an Indian freedom fighter and politician was born in the year 1908 in Ambala. She gained educated at Indraprastha College as well as at St. Stephen's College. Sucheta then became lecturer at the Banaras Hindu University (BHU). She wedded socialist, Acharya Kriplani and got involved in the activities of the Indian National Congress (INC).
Even the honour to become the 1st woman to be voted Chief Minister of a state goes to Sucheta. Despite being the wife of a socialist, she built up her repute as a firm bureaucrat. Kriplani was amongst the small section of women voted to the Constituent Assembly and a part of the subcommittee that conscripted the Indian Constitution. She sang ‘Vande Mataram’, the National Song in the Independence Session of the Constituent Assembly on 15th August, 1947.

She passed away in the year 1974.
