|Sir Mokshagundam Visvesvaraya was a prominent engineer and statesman. He was born in September 15, 1860 in a village of Karnataka. His father died, when he was 15 years old. He went to Bangalore for higher education and later on joined the Science College to study Engineering and topped there. He was offered the post of an Assistant Engineer at Nasik by the Government of Bombay. He was the mind behind the Krishnaraja Sagar Dam in Mysore. In 1912, he was appointed as the Dewan of Mysore. He worked rigorously for the development of the state. During his lifetime, he was awarded with a number of honours.
