Shubha Mudgal

Shubha Mudgal, born in 1959 in Allahabad, is a renowned Indian singer of classical music and popular Indian Pop music. In 1996, she has been awarded the National Film Award for Best Non-Feature Film Music Direction for 'Amrit Beej'. In 1998, for her music in the film Dance of the Wind, she was conferred the Gold Plaque Award, at the 34th Chicago International Film Festival. She was later conferred the Padma Shri in 2000.
The first guru of Shubha from whom she learned Hindustani classical music was Pandit Ram Ashreya Jha in Allahabad, followed by Pandit Vinaya Chandra Maudgalya and Pandit Vasant Thakar in Delhi. She later continued her education with Pandit Jitendra Abhisheki, Naina Devi and Pt. Kumar Gandharva.
