Shabana Azmi


Shabana Azmi, born on 18 September 1950 in New Delhi, is one of the leading actresses of parallel cinema. Besides, she is also a social activist. In her acting career she has earned several awards that include five National Film Awards for Best Actress. Her first movie was Shyam Benegal's Ankur released in 1972, for which she won the national award.
Shabana has acted in more than one hundred Hindi films. Several of her films have received attention in the international arena, including at the Norwegian Film Institute, the Smithsonian Institution and the American Film Institute. A number of her films have won international acclaim.
