Sen Mahasay

Ashutosh Sen set up a small and humble sweet shop at Fariapukur Street in 1897 and named it ‘Sen Mahasay’. It was his hobby to make different types of sweets, although he was not a professional confectioner. Some of his creations are ‘Ratabi Sandesh’, ‘Pink Pera’, ‘Malai Chop’ and ‘Abar Khabo’. All these sweets were remarkable for their novelty and taste and are still popular in west Bengal.
Various other sweets were added to its earlier fame of the shop in the form of ‘Cake Sandesh’, `Ksheer Kadam` and `Peshwari Sandesh` and `Cake Sandesh`. At the shop various colourful and tasty Sandesh in different designs and moulds can be found today according to different festivals and occasions.
