Satyajit Ray


Satyajit Ray was a notable Bengali film director. He was born on 2 May 1921 in the city of Kolkata. He was regarded as one of the finest auteur of the 20th century. During his entire film career he directed thirt-seven films that include feature films, documentaries and shorts. Pather Panchali was his first film for which he won eleven international prizes that includes the Best Human Document at Cannes film festival.

Ray also did casting, scripting, scoring, art direction cinematography, and editing. He was a fiction writer, illustrator, film critics, publisher and graphic designer. He received many major awards. Due to heart complications, his heath deteriorated and on April 23, 1992 he passed away.
