Satluj River

Satluj River is the longest of five rivers flowing through the state of Punjab in India. It is also spelled as Sutlej. In Vedic times it was called as Satudru / Satudri. Satluj also forms historic crossroad region of Punjab in northern India and Pakistan. River Satluj has its source as Lake Rakshastal in Tibet near Mount Kailasa.
Satluj is also called as red river. This river is of greater historic significance as it waters the ancient historic region of Greater Punjab. The region to its south and east is called as Great Indian Desert or Thar Desert.

In its total course of 320 KM in Himachal Pradesh Satluj River flows through Kinnaur, Shimla, Kullu, Solan, Mandi and Bilaspur districts. These regions are most known tourist spots and River Satluj adds to the beauty of the place. Satluj is famous for its adventurous sport i.e. river rafting.
