Santosh Trophy

Santosh Trophy was premier football tournament of India, just before the onset of National Football League. It was named after the President of the Indian Football Association late Maharaja Sir Manmatha Nath Roy Chowdhary of Santosh dismissed in the year 1941. In this Trophy, rather than clubs a number of Indian states compete for the top honour. Eight teams were selected with a qualifying round; join the four teams in the quarter final league state. These teams were divided in to four groups of three each and then group winners get through the semi final line up.
