| Sanjukta Panigrahi was the chief promoter of Indian classical dance, Odissi. She was born on 24 August 1944. She was the first girl from Orissa to embrace this ancient classical dance at an early age and to endure its revival. For her contribution to dancing as well as associated activities, she was conferred with the Padma Shri in 1975. She also received the Sangeet Natak Akademi Award in 1976 jointly with her husband, Raghunath Panigrahi, a fine vocalist of Geeta Govinda. |
