Salman Rushdie

Sir Ahmed Salman Rushdie was born on June 19, 1947. He is an Indian-British essayist and novelist. He became famous with his second Novel ‘Midnight’s Children’ published in 1981 and in the same year he won the Booker Prize for this novel. He was appointed as a Knight Bachelor for "services to literature" in June 2007. In France, he holds the highest rank - Commandeur - in the Ordre des Arts et des Lettres.
In 2007, Salman started a five-year term as Distinguished Writer in Residence at Emory University. Later, he was elected to the American Academy of Arts and Letters in May 2008. He won a public vote to be named the Best of the Booker in July 208 for his novel ‘Midnight's Children’.
