Sailendra Nath Manna was the former Indian captain, as well as defender and had brought glory to the nation with his commendable performance in the soccer turf. His football career began in the Calcutta League with the second division Howrah Union. He was a part of the premier Indian football team, which participated in the 1948 London Olympics, on an overseas tour. After Olympics, he led India to Asian Games gold in 1951 after beating Iran. It was under his leadership that India won four consecutive titles. His name was often synonymous with the Mohun Bagan Club. |
