The Rock Shelters of Bhimbetka is an archaeological site that is located in Madhya Pradesh, 45km southeast of Bhopal. The shelter displays some of the world's oldest Stone Age rock paintings that are more than 9000 years old. The shelter is spread over 10 km in length and 3 km in width. More than 700 rock shelters can be found here of which 400 have paintings. |

The shelter was enlisted in the World Heritage Site in 2003. It visualises the pre-historic panorama of India filled with battle scenes hunting and animals. Various paintings from the Mesolithic period right through the historical period with different motifs, portrays the time and life of Stone Age. |
