Rani Gaidinliu

Rani Gaidinliu, an active participant in the fight for freedom from British rule in India was born in Nangkao village of Manipur. She became associated with the freedom struggle ar the age of 13 years, and was determined to drive out British from Manipur as well as Naga areas by leading a socio-political movement.
At the age of 16 years she was arrested and imprisoned for life. It was in the year 1947, when India got freedom that she was freed. She even structured a resistance movement against the Naga National Council (NNC)-led insurgents in the year1966, and subsequently went underground. Rani Gaidinliu was also awarded the honour of a Padma Bhushan. She passed away in the year 1993 at the age of 78 years. In her memory, the Government of India even issued a postal stamp.
