Rameshwar Broota



Rameshwar Broota was born in the year 1941 in Delhi, and developed a taste for painting at a tender age. In the year 1964, he graduated from Delhi College of Art. His earlier works reflected the anguish and sufferings that were embedded in the society. The Gorilla Series spanning around 10 years (1970-79) reflected his sensitivity towards the insensitive societal structure. He has given a new vision to the contemporary art scenario either with his creative genius or sense of humour.
The painter has won 3 National Awards of the Lalit Kala Akademi in the years 1980, 1981 and 1984, the AIFACS Awards in the years 1973 and 1975 as well as the Hyderabad Art Society Award for Graphics in the year 1976. He also received the Senior Fellowship of the Government of India for the years 1987 and 1988. He was also Conferred the Title Award 'Kala Vibhushan' by AIFACS in the year 1997.
