Rajkumari Amrit Kaur

Rajkumari Amrit Kaur, an eminent social activist as well as freedom fighter was born on February 2nd 1889 in Lucknow, Uttar Pradesh. She was the health minister in the Cabinet for 10 years after India's independence. She did her schooling in Sherborne School for Girls in Dorset, England. Later on, she pursued her college education at Oxford University, and came back to India.
In the year 1927, she co-founded the All India Women’s Conference, became its secretary and president in the year 1930 and 1933 respectively. Kaur was a strong supporter of universal suffrage, literacy, eradication of the practice of child marriages as well as the purdah system for women. She was the member of Rajya Sabha, from 1957 up to 1964.
