Rajiv Gandhi was the 9th Prime Minister of India. He was born on August 20, 1944, in Mumbai and was the eldest son of Indira Gandhi. He was a pilot by profession and entered politics in 1980, after the death of his brother Sanjay Gandhi. In 1981, he won his first parliamentary elections to the Lok Sabha. After the assassination of his mother in 1984, the Indian National Congress party elected him Prime Minister.
