Ram Mohan Roy was born on August 14, 1774. In 1828, he founded the Brahma Sabha that engendered the Brahmo Samaj, an influential Indian socio-religious reform movement. He is well known for his efforts to abolish the practice of sati. He was the first person to introduce the word "Hinduism" into the English language in 1816. He travelled to the United States as an ambassador of the Mughal Empire in 1831. |
