Pulahari (Tamarind rice)

Pulahari or Tamarind rice is a rice dish that is very spicy, sour and delicious. It is typically served all by itself or accompanied by salad. This dish is very popular among the people of Tamil Nadu, Karnataka and other south Indian states. In this dish tamarind is extensively used.
To make this dish, rice is first of all steamed or boiled. After that tamarind juice, groundnuts or peanuts, coriander, coconut, red chilli, curry leaves, jaggery, pepper, mustard, fenugreek, turmeric, asafoetida, urad dal, and cumin are mixed to it. Then it is cooked and mixed thoroughly till the water thickens. This dish is particularly prepared during festivals such as diwali.
