Today, as the Indian Postal Department celebrates 150 years of its existence, it has 1, 55,669 post offices across India. Today, India has the largest postal network in the world due to the seven-fold growth in the postal network.
The postal network of India consists of four categories of post offices that include Head Post Offices, Sub-Post Offices, Extra Departmental Sub-Post Offices and Extra Departmental Branch Post Offices. All these categories of post Offices offer similar postal services such as first class mail, second class mail and money order services, while delivery function is restricted to some offices.
