The poetry and prose tradition of India is deep-embedded ever since the time of Rigveda. In India, poetry is repeatedly strongly connected to musical traditions, and a section of it can be credited to the growth of religious movements. A large number of notable writers as well as philosophers were often skilled poets too.
In fact in the modern times, the usage of poetry served as a significant non-violent tool of patriotism throughout the Indian freedom movement. The well-known instances of this tradition are figures such as Rabindranath Tagore as well as K. S. Narasimhaswamy. Some of theor ancient and medical counterparts can be enumerated as Kabir, Basava (vachanas), and Purandaradasa (padas and devaranamas).
