Pilavullakandi Thekkeparambil Usha, known as P. T. Usha was born on June 27, 1964 in Kerala, India. She is a great Indian athlete and is regarded as the Queen of Indian track and field. She started her career by participating in Indian National School Games in 1979. Later she represented India in the Moscow Olympics in 1980.

In 1983, Usha won her first gold medal in the Asian Track and Field Championship, in Kuwait. She won 13 gold medals at ATF championships between 1983 and 1989. She became the first Indian woman to reach the final of 400m hurdles in 1984 Los Angeles Olympics. So far, she has won 101 international medals and was honoured with the Padma Shri and the Arjuna Award in 1985.
