 Water is a film that was directed and written by Deepa Mehta. The film was made in the year 2005. It is set in 1938 and explores the lives of widows at an ashram in Varanasi, India. The movie offers some of the stellar performances by its actors like, Seema Biswas, Lisa Ray, John Abraham, Sarala Kariyawasam, Kulbhushan Kharbanda, Waheeda Rehman, Raghuvir Yadav, and Vinay Pathak. The film premiered at the 2005 Toronto International Film Festival, where it was honored with the Opening Night Gala. In India, the movie got released in 2007. The film is also the third part of a trilogy by Mehta, preceded by Fire (1996) and Earth (1998).
The movie deals with a very delicate social matter in a very beautiful and subtle manner. It is one of the most critically acclaimed movies of its time.
