Mulk Raj Anand

Mulk Raj Anand was an Indian English writer born on December 12, 1905 in Peshawar. He is widely known for being the pioneers of Indo-Anglian fiction. Most of his work depicted the lives of the poorer castes in traditional Indian society. In 1935, his first main novel, ‘Untouchable’ was published. The book captured the puissance of the Punjabi and Hindi idiom in English and was widely acclaimed. He was later drawn to the Indian independence movement.
Anand’s work includes poetry and essay on a wide range of subjects, as well as autobiographies and novels. In 1968, he won the Sahitya Akademi Award. He died on September 28, 2004 in Pune.
