| Mountain Railways of India refer to the railways that were built in the mountainous regions of India. Darjeeling Himalayan Railway, Kalka- Shimla Railway, Matheran Hill Railway and Nilgiri Mountain Railway are the railway that runs in the mountainous region. |

| In 1999, the Darjeeling Himalayan Railway was the first to be enlisted in the World Heritage Site, while the Nilgiri Mountain Railway was added to the site in 2005. However, both Matheran Hill Railway and the Kalka- Shimla Railway are on the provisional nomination list of the site. The mountain railways of India portray a significant role in connecting with the part of the country despite of the hilly and uneven landscapes. |
