Mohd. Ali Qamar



Mohd. Ali Qamar is one of the talented newcomers in the circuit of Indian boxing. He is the first Indian boxer to win a gold medal at the Commonwealth Games. He was born to a middle class family of Kolkata. In 1991, he became the winner of the West Bengal Inter-district Boxing championship. From 1991 till 1996, he dominated the state boxing scenario. Cheena Bhai was his first coach and he received his boxing lessons at Kidderpore School of Physical Education in Kolkata.
Qamar came into the limelight when he won the gold medal in the 2002 Commonwealth Games at Manchester, England. He created history by defeating Darren Langley of the host country.
