Mohammad Iqbal

Sir Muhammad Iqbal was a Muslim philosopher, poet and a politician. He was born on November 9, 1877 in Sialkot, British India (now in Pakistan). The poetries that he wrote in Urdu and Persian language are considered as the greatest of the modern era. In India he is famously known for the patriotic song, Saare Jahan Se Achcha.
Iqbal was a strong proponent of the political and spiritual revival of Islamic civilisation across the world, specifically in India. He was one of the most prominent leaders of the All India Muslim League. In Pakistan he is officially recognised as the "national poet" and his birth anniversary is a holiday in Pakistan. He died on April 21, 1938.
