Mohammad Azharuddin is the ex-captain of the Indian cricket team. He was a right handed batsman, known for his fluid batting style akin to his English contemporary, David Grower. He played best against spinners, with wrist flick as his most distinguishing shot. The elegance and smoothness of his wrist prompted a renowned cricket writer, to comment, “It’s no use asking an Englishman to bat like Mohammad Azharuddin. For it would be like greyhound to win the London Derby!”
Azhar belonged to Hyderabad and got his education at a Catholic convent boys school. He has filed a record of a century in each of first three Tests. He is considered to be one of the most successful captains of India. |
