| Mira Nair is a consummate film director, writer, producer, who began her artistic career with Salaam Bombay. She was born in Bhubaneshwar, India in 1957 and studied at Delhi University and Harvard University. She hot huge acclaim as a documentary film maker and even received awards for So Far From India and India Cabaret. Many of her movies are nominated for Academy Award, Golden Globe and BAFTA Award for Best foreign language film. Her venture Mississippi Masala, which is a love story with the American South and Uganda, set up bagged three awards at the Venice Film Festival. After the tragic event of September 11, 2001, she directed a film restating the events in the life of the Hamdani Family, whose son was missing and thus was accused of being a terrorist by the media.
