Milkha Singh



Milkha Singh was born in Pakistan, on October 8, 1935. He first shot to fame in 1958, during the National Games at Cuttak where he broke the 200 and 400 meters record. In 1958, he established new records in the 200 and 400 meters in the Asian games at Tokyo. In the same year, he was awarded the prestigious 'Padam Shri' by the President of India for his excellent performance.
He won the gold medal at the 1958 Asian Games in the 200m and 400m. He is also an Olympic 400m record holder held in 1960, in Rome. At present, he is Additional Director of Sports and Youth Programme, Education Department.
