|More of a geographical area than a political area, the middle east is constituted of the countries like Bahrain, Egypt, Iran, Iraq, Kuwait, Lebanon, Oman, Palestinian territories, Qatar, Saudi Arabia, Syria, Turkey, the United Arab Emirates, Yemen and Egypt. Very important from the point of view of trade and employment, India has long since maintained cordial ties with these countries.
In addition to the region being a major market for Indian exports, there are more reasons like the employment of more than three million Indians placed in these regions. Also, these countries have vast resources of oil and natural gas and to maintain a good flow of these resources to India, it is important to keep good relations. The invasion of Iraq by the US was not supported by India and this has further added to the strength of ties with Middle Eastern countries.
