Manuel Aaron

Manuel Aaron is the pioneer in the game of chess in India. He played an important role in building India into a budding force in world chess. He was born in 1935 on 30th December. He was the first Indian to earn the title of International Master. He won the national title nine times and won the state championship for a whopping 11 times. He became and International Master after winning the West Asian Zonal and the Asian-Australian Zonal finals.
Aaron was the first chess player to be honoured with Arjuna Award. He captained the Indian team to the Chess Olympic at Leipzjg, Germany (1960) and Varna, Bulgaria (1962) and in 1964 he participated in Tel Aviv Chess Olympiad.
