Manoj Kumar was born on July 24, 1937, at Abbottabad. He is popularly known for directing films with patriotic themes. He made his first leading role in 1960 in Kaanch Ki Gudia. His image as patriotic hero started with the film Shaheed in 1965. His directorial debut was Upkar in 1967, for which he received his first Filmfare Best Director Award. |

Kranti was the last notable successful film of Manoj in his career. He quit acting after his last film appearance in the 1995 film Maidan-E-Jung. In 1999, he was awarded the Filmfare Lifetime Achievement Award. He decided to enter politics after retirement and before the 2004 general election in India, he officially joined the ranks of the Shivsena. |
