Manna Dey
Prabodh Chandra Dey was born on May 1, 1919. He is better known by his nickname Manna Dey. He is one among the greatest playback singers of India. After coming to Mumbai in 1942, he started working as an assistant under Krishna Chandra Dey, and then Sachin Dev Burman. Later, he started working independently. Besides working as a music director for Hindi movies, he also continued to take musical lessons in Indian classical music from Ustad Abdul Rahman Khan and Ustad Aman Ali Khan.
Manna Dey, as a playback singer started his career in 1943, with the movie, Tamanna. He has also sung for Marathi and Bengali movies. In his entire career he has recorded more than 3500 songs.
