Majrooh Sultanpuri |

| Majrooh Sultanpuri was born on October 1, 1919 in Sultanpur in the Indian state of Uttar Pradesh. He was an Urdu poet, lyricist who ruled the Indian cinema in the 1950s and 60s. During 1949, under Mehboob Production the songs of Majrooh became very popular. He went on writing lyrics for some of the most popular films of the 1950s. He was also considered as a notable ghazal writer. He won his first and only Filmfare Award for Dosti. |

| Majrooh has written nearly 4000 songs during his lifetime. In 1993, he was awarded the Dadasaheb Phalke Award and became the first lyricist to win this prestigious award. He died of a severe attack of pneumonia on May 24, 2000. |
