|Maithili Sharan Gupt was one of the most prominent modern Hindi poets. He was born in 1886 in a Gahoi family of Chirgaon, Jhansi. He is one among the pioneers of Khari Boli poetry. His first major work, Rang mein Bhang got published in 1910 and his nationalist poems were really popular among Indian, striving for independence. His poems dealt with themes like lives of religious leaders, plots from Ramayana, Mahabharata and Buddhist stories. As a child, he didn't like school, so education was arranged at their home. He studied Sanskrit, Bengali, English and moved to the world of Hindi literature with poems. His mentor was Mahavir Prasad Dwivedi.
