Mahabodhi Temple Complex at Bodh Gaya



The Mahabodhi Temple Complex at Bodh Gaya is a holy site related to Lord Buddha. It is located in the central state of Bihar. The first temple was built by the Emperor Ashoka in the 3rd century B.C. and the present temples were built during in 5th or 6th century. It is one of the oldest Buddhist temples that were built entirely in bricks during the late Gupta period.
It is believed that in this place Lord Buddha attained enlightenment. The centre of the temple is surrounded by stone railing which is an outstanding example of the sculpture relics in stone. The temple depicts of the various events associated with the life of Lord Buddha.
