India is the seventh largest country in the world. It is bounded to the southeast by the Bay of Bengal, southwest by the Arabian Sea and south by the Indian Ocean. The Himalayas are to the north, northeast and northwest. The southernmost part of India is the Indira Point in the Andaman and Nicobar Island.
India lies to the north of the equator and has land frontier of 15,200 km and a coastline of 7,517 km. Cape Comorin forms the southern tip of the mainland peninsula that narrows before ending in the Indian Ocean. The Indian territorial water extends into the sea up to twelve nautical miles from the appropriate baseline.
