Kedarnath Temple

The Kedarnath Temple is located atop the Garhwal Himayan Range near the origin of River Mangadkini in Uttarakhand. The temple is dedicated to Lord Shiva and is one of the holiest places for Hindus. This is one of the four major pilgrimages called as Char Dham and is also one of the twelve Jyothirlingas which are the holiest Hindu shrines of Lord Shiva.
The temple is not accessible by road. It can be reached by a 14 km long uphill trek from Gaurikund. The temple was built by Adi Shankaracharya and it is basically a stone edifice of Lord Shiva called the Lingam which is worshipped here in the temple. The temple opens for six months starting from April to November due to adverse weather conditions in winters when the temple is buried under packs of snow.
