|Kumar Digvijay Singh, known as K. D. Singh Babu was a prominent hockey player. He was born in Bara Banki, Uttar Pradesh, India. He was called as 'Babu' among his peers of the Indian hockey team because of the aristocracy he lent to everything he did. After making his debut to the national team, he visited British East Africa (Kenya), Tanzania and Uganda under the leadership of the great Dhyan Chand, he established his status as a prolific goal-scorer. He has been the vice-captain of the Indian team and bagged the gold medal at the London Olympics of 1948 and again in 1952 Helsinki Olympics. He was conferred with the Padma Shri in the 1960.
