| Sir Jagadish Chandra Bose, born on November 30, 1858, was a Bengali polymath. He made several significant contributions to plant science and also laid the foundation of experimental science in the Indian subcontinent. He was the first Indian to get a US patent in 1904. He is also considered as the father of radio science and Bengali science fiction. |

| Bose made remarkable progress in his research of remote wireless signalling and was the first to use semiconductor junctions to detect radio signals. Subsequently, he also made several pioneering discoveries in plant physiology. Today, he is recognised for many of his contribution to modern science. He died on 23 November, 1937. |
