|The relation of India with the Islamic Republic of Pakistan has been the only weak link in the foreign relations that India has so far maintained with the rest of the world. Due to a dispute over the state of Jammu and Kashmir, there have been conflicts in the past on more than one occasion.
At the time of independence, the King of the state Hari Singh Dogra chose to join the Indian Republic rather than Pakistan which led to a war in 1947. However, elections have been taking place since the past 40 years in the state which proves it to be an Indian state. Also, in the hostility of war, irregular invaders backed by the Pakistan Army occupied some part of Kashmir which is called as Pakistan-occupied Kashmir. The agreed Line of Control is still agreed upon by infiltration is seen to take place till date. Another war was caused in 1965 on the same ground and also a conflict took place in 1999. India has tried to revoke its relations with Pakistan through efforts like Samjhauta Express.
