Irani Trophy

The Irani Trophy tournament was envisioned during 1959-60, marking the completion of 25 years of the Ranji Trophy. It was named after the late Z.R. Irani, who was linked with the Board of Control for Cricket in India (BCCI) since the times of its inception. The very first match between the Rest of India and the Ranji Trophy champions took place in 1959-60. At that point of time, the trophy was organized in the name of Zal Irani. Its games are quite popular, as well as significant. Prominent players become a part of this game and it is often a kind of selection of the players for foreign tours.
